1/15/2024 0 Comments Happy New YearImplement successful changeAt the beginning of each new year, most of us re-evaluate what we are doing and look at the new year as a potential fresh beginning. We make New Year Resolutions with high hopes and good intentions. But for many, there was little planning because it’s estimated that 80% of Americans have dropped those resolutions by the second Friday in January, also known as “Quitter’s Day.”
When Jesus was teaching about the cost of discipleship, He used some practical illustrations that everyone understood. It was common understanding that a builder would plan and evaluate if he had enough to finish the job. “For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’” (Lk 14:28-29 ESV). So what does it mean to “count the cost?” For discipleship, it means accepting and understanding that Jesus is Lord and our lives are His. He is Lord of all or not Lord at all. For Jesus to make His point, He assumed the listeners understood the importance of planning for success. God is the God of order. As to resolutions, we need to quit some that are unrealistic, but others could be revisited with better planning and become successful. 12/12/2023 0 Comments What Mary KnewA timeline of Mary, Mother of Jesus the Christ
The popular “Mary Did You Know” song poses some truly good questions. Martha prepared this teaching on Mary, the mother of Jesus, for our ladies’ group at church. As a mother of daughters herself, she was curious about how God prepared Mary for the incredible calling on her life. Mary wasn’t divine; she had to accept Jesus as Messiah and be born again just like everyone else. But she was greatly blessed as the angel Gabriel said, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” (Lk 1:28b NKJV).

It’s not an absence from stressful situations in our lives; it’s a promise he will carry the weight of the burden while we fulfill our responsibilities. We are not alone. Sometimes what we need to take to him isn’t ours to carry at all. We’ve taken up something for which we have no control or responsibility.

Lesson 8 - The Christian Armor
The Apostle Paul uses the Roman soldier’s armor as a memory aid for Believers, to remind us of who we are in Christ and what authority we have in His name. The armor is designed to cover all areas of attack from the enemy, so that we Christians are equipped to do battle in all the major areas. It’s important to remember that analogies present something tangible on which to hang an abstract principle. In this case—spiritual warfare. |
