Thomas Jefferson, one of our Founding Fathers
"Why an article on Thomas Jefferson? As I look at the great divisions in our nation, I am concerned about the attack on truth. Once truth is no longer absolute, “truth” is whatever on believes at the moment. The next step is to remove history because we don’t like it, or to judge the actions of people by our own filters. This is not a political article. It is a presentation of facts in the context of the timer period they occurred. Slavery was wrong then; it’s wrong now."

He Blesses—and Blesses Again!
"It is exciting to see students at the Bible Institute grow and change as they understand what Jesus has done and is doing in their lives, how the Word of God is practical in their everyday lives. And it’s exciting when Jesus touches them physically with healing. Meet Stephen who is one, and Jolene who is another."

God Never Gave Up on Him!
"Kevin is in my First and Second Corinthians class and is a joy to my heart as a teacher. He was on and off with the Lord until he made a heart commitment. He learned that sin has pleasure on the short run, but misery on the long run, and that no one can live the Christian life unless he is totally surrendered to Christ."

Unusual Visitations from God
"Heath is one of my students at the Calvary Bible Institute, and it’s obvious that God has a call on his life. Although a former inmate, he is already allowed to go back into prison to share how Jesus has changed him. His story is one with unusual divine visitations before coming to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus."

Prepared for God's Opportunity
"Dr. Voelkel began serving as a missionary to Korea in 1928. After a Crusade in Korea, Billy Graham made this statement: When I was in Korea it was my privilege to observe firsthand the work of Chaplain Harold Voelkel in the prisoner of war camps…. What God has wrought through His servant and co-laborers is a modern-day miracle. Dr. Voelkel was a humble man who felt he was just in the right place at the right time."

Stones of Remembrance
"All through the Word, God charges us to “remember.” His commands, His miracles, what He has done for us. Joshua built a memorial of stones after Israel crossed over Jordan so that When your children ask in time to come, “What do those stones mean to you?” then you tell them how God parted the waters so they could cross (Joshua 4:21-24). When discouraged, we need to remember what God has done in our lives.”

Count it all joy! Really?
"For this newsletter, I want to share a taste of the Book of James. When James said in 1:2 to count it all joy, the teaching behind that statement is at the center of all daily living. Joy is a gift from God and is a quality in your spirit that produces a calm delight deep within your heart. Strange as it may seem, experiences of sorrow enlarge our capacity to experience joy, so it turns out that God has purpose even in adversity and trials."

Commentary on the Book
"As I explained in the last newsletter, I am writing an expanded commentary of the book of James as part of the curriculum I will teach in the fall session in the Bible Institute. My purpose is to weave in other scriptures and historical information to create better understanding. Remember to read this as a commentary instead of a literal translation. Your feedback is welcome."

Abandoned - but not by Jesus
"When it comes to Kingdom work, it’s all about changing lives and helping people develop authentic relationships with our Lord Jesus. That’s my heart, and that’s what Calvary Commission is all about. In the last 28 years of being associated with Calvary Commission, my soul continues to be blessed as I see the many men and women—several thousand now—who have given their hearts to the Lord and who work for Him the remainder of their lives."

Graduation Celebration
"I wish you could have been there to hear all the guests and students cheering, sometimes yelling, occasionally a whistle, mixed with a roar of applause as each candidate walked across the stage to receive their diploma. This was the annual graduation exercise of the Calvary Bible Institute. The air was electric with celebration."

Still Serving the Lord
"In 2014, I shared the testimony of Jeffery. I wanted to revisit and see how he is doing four years later. I called him and can share with you that he’s doing great! So that you can more fully appreciate the work God has done in his life, let me refresh your memory of the original testimony."

Christmas at the Base
"Christmas season at Calvary Commission in Lindale, Texas is a little like at your house except there are ministry opportunities mixed in with activities for the students. The lights are up around the doors leading to the Chapel. In a corner of the chapel, chairs have been removed and a large Christmas tree has been put in place. That area has couches, arm chairs, and a coffee table like a large living room. It’s where students and staff can catch a moment between classes or their job assignments and sit and visit, making it a home away from home."
